Bowes in the Footsteps of Charles Dickens

Heritage Open Day: Walking tours of the village following in the footsteps of Charles Dickens and his illustrator 'Phiz' (Hablot Knight Browne). Dickens and Phiz visited Bowes in 1838. They dined at the Ancient Unicorn coaching inn then trudged through the snow the length of the village, having heard about the prosecution of one of the notorious 'Yorkshire Schoolmasters' for allowing pupils to go blind.
