A Talk on Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley And The Vital Defence of The Lake District

Heritage Open Day: St Margaret of Antioch, Wray on Windermere is the estate church for Wray Castle, the 19th century mock gothic pile built for a Liverpool surgeon on the north western shore of Lake Windermere. As well as the church, the surgeon used his wife's money to built a vicarage and incorporate several farms and a hunting lodge. Hardwicke Rawnsley, with his newly wed wife Edith, was priest here from 1877 to 1884 and it is this place where he met Beatrix Potter when her family rente
