Mersea Barrow
Heritage Open Day: Roman burial barrow, excavated in 1912. Contents of glass urn and lead box containing cremated remains now on display in Mersea Museum. Passage way leads to the site of the burial. Cremated bones recently analysed. Resin covering the remains included a very high proportion of Frankincense - a rare occurrence in this part of Europe.
