William Gilberd Days of Tudor Science - Holy Trinity Church
Heritage Open Day: Built by the Saxons around 1000 AD, the church tower is the oldest standing building in Colchester, predating the Norman castle by three quarters of a century. The tower features a small doorway and Romanesque arch constructed with recycled Roman bricks. Later additions include the 14th century chancel and Victorian extensions. The arrow shaped Saxon doorway is the third most photographed doorway in Essex.
