Allegri Singers present Music of Conflict and Memory
Allegri sing motets by Palestrina and Philips, from a time of conflict between the Roman Catholic Church and the newly forming churches during the Reformation. They perform Herbert Howells Requiem, one of the most beautiful and moving pieces of English Church music. The concert ends with Michael Tippett's Five Negro Spirituals from his oratorio A Child of Our Time.
