NATIONAL TRUST Watford and District Association

You’ve never had it so good – London in the 50s and 60s. Speaker: Colin Oakes. Colin Oakes returns to look at when London got back on its feet after the war years. From bomb sites, austerity, rationing and export or die, spiv suits, new look, big bands to rock and roll. The period was one which saw jazz change from “trad” to modern, food go from spam fritters to tikka Masala, immigration from Maltese to multi-culturalism – you didn’t know it at the time but “You never had it so good”. Colin is an archaeologist who since 1982 has also taken walking tours. Later these developed into talks on many different subjects.

Start time 8.00pm. Admission for non-members of the Association £2.
