Broughton House Garden is a fascinating townhouse garden that belonged to E A Hornel - artist, collector and one of the 'Glasgow boys'. Full of colour, with mostly herbaceous plants, old apple trees, greenhouse with old pelargonium varieties, and fruit and vegetable garden. Directions: Off A711/A755 on Kirkcudbright High Street. Stagecoach buses 500/X75 and 501 from Dumfries and Castle Douglas. By bike, NCN 7. Nearest train station Dumfries, then taxi/bus to Kirkcudbright.
