Charity Garden Open Day: Horatio’s Gardens

Opened in 2016, the garden was designed by award winning garden designer and RHS judge, James Alexander-Sinclair. It is for patients at The Scottish National Spinal Unit; The garden offers a haven for patients and their families during their long stay in hospital. The garden is divided into six distinct spaces, each with a different purpose and designed to stimulate different senses – sight, smell, touch and all providing a sense of wellbeing. The courtyard is at the heart of the unit with contemporary garden pods to enjoy the garden in all weathers. There is a woodland garden overlooked by the wards to encourage wildlife into the garden, a play garden for children who are visiting relatives and a physiotherapy garden which is functional as well as beautiful.
