Charity Garden Open Day: Barmagachan House
This new garden surrounds an 18th century house on a rocky knoll overlooking Wigtown Bay. It is profusely planted with a large variety of alpines, perennials and shrubs, including rhododendrons. Two themes are plants from SW China and Australia e.g. meconoposis, Asian primulas, eucryphia, and hebe. Many plants have been chosen for their wildlife value. The grounds also include an orchard, wall trained fruit, soft fruit area, potager and meadow. The woodland is rich in bird life. There is a 13th century motte. Directions: From Borgue follow the coast (Carrick) road up hill past the church and down. Take the first and only right turn and follow the lane winding past farms for about ½ mile. Barmagachan House is on the left by a wood.
2:00pm-5:00pm. £4.00, accompanied children free. Proceeds to National Trust for Scotland (Threave Ospreys), Scottish Wildlife Trust & SG Beneficiaries
