Sam Gorin explores a decade of excavations at Empingham, Rutland and examines how a major civil engineering project -- the construction of Rutland Water -- contributed to our understanding of landscape archaeology at a time before the introduction of developer funding and major archaeological units. Exploring evidence from prehistoric, Romano-British and Anglo-Saxon sites he will argue the case for continuity of occupation in the Gwash valley. Parallels will be
