Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome is the largest surviving Great War aerodrome in Europe! Nestled between Chelmsford and Maldon in the Essex countryside, our aerodrome has a unique and captivating history spanning over a century. From moments of tumult or excitement to periods of peace, Stow Maries has experienced it all and is ready to offer you a glimpse into its rich past.
As the largest intact group of Royal Flying Corps (RFC) buildings from WWI, Stow Maries is a treasure trove of historical significance. Our growing collections include thousands of objects directly related to the site, the people that make up its story and the landscape it sits in. Our exhibitions, in original 1917 buildings, tell the stories of Stow Maries, as well as specialist tours, events and more.
We have a packed event programme including two major air shows a year, living history and nature days.
The Airmen's Mess café is open to the public without charge on non-event days for home made food.
