Hidden away in old Wellesbourne is a Victorian wheelwright's and blacksmith's yard crammed with the tools and equipment left by five generations of the Chedham family. The yard was saved from dereliction when it won the BBC's Restoration Village contest which meant it could be restored and opened to the public.
Visitors can watch blacksmiths working in the forge and woodturners in their shed as they transform chunks of wood. Volunteers are on hand to show you round. There are seats in the wildlife garden and a cafe serving light refreshments.
A different themed event runs each week, focussing on country life and rural crafts. Many offer visitors the chance to have a go. They range from pole lathe turning to hedge laying, and traditional wheel tyring to apple pressing.
Children are very welcome. They can, eg, follow the mouse trail, join in the family fun day and practise working a foot treadle.
Plants,hand-crafted gifts and souvenirs are on sale..
