The oldest independent museum in Scotland, Elgin Museum was opened in 1836, having been funded by public subscription. It houses a varied collection of artefacts including unique fossils, Bronze Age relics, Pictish carved stones and Medieval seals. Throughout the season there are art exhibitions, children's activity days and special events. We have a shop selling books, children's toys and local craft goods. Next door is a small cafe.
Opening hours are Mon - Fri 10am to 5pm, Sat 11am to 4pm, Sun closed. (This year, also open on Sundays during July, August and September from 1pm to 4pm.)
Entry is free although donations are gratefully received.
