Oakwell Hall & Country Park
Oakwell Hall is a Grade I Listed Elizabethan manor house, furnished as a family home of the 1690s. It offers visitors a real insight into a post-English Civil War household. History comes to life as you explore the fine period rooms, seventeenth century carved furniture, in a building surprisingly unchanged in over 400 years. Follow in the footsteps of Charlotte Brontë, who based Fieldhead on Oakwell Hall in her novel Shirley. Dress up as a Roundhead or Cavalier in our beautiful reproduction period costumes and take an #OakwellSelfie. Hear the legendary ghost story and listen to Charlotte Brontë as she recounts her experiences here.
There are also over 100 acres of Green Flag Award Winning Country Park to explore, with award winning period gardens, a nature trail, playground and picnic areas. Round off your trip with a visit to the gift shop selling a range of souvenirs or call into the café for lunch or light refreshments.
