Sutton Hoo and World History. Building burial mounds is a global practice - why did people do it' From the hill-size tomb of the first emperor of China (221BC) to Sutton Hoo Mound 1 (7th c AD) and the great flat-topped mounds of the Mississippi culture (late 13th century AD) these monuments linger in the landscap. In this talk we will be taken on a world tour showing the different meanings of mounds in different countries and social circumstances - ending with our own at Sutton Hoo. Book
