The Boswell Book Festival is the world’s only festival dedicated to biography and memoir, staged at Dumfries House in Ayrshire. Our unique theme – ‘biography and memoir’ – famously inspired by James Boswell, (b. 1740), the inventor of modern biography, has over the six years of our existence, led us to uncover an amazing variety of life stories portrayed annually in our Festival programme. This distinguishes us from all other book festivals. Ayrshire’s magnificent Dumfries House, famously saved for the nation by the Prince of Wales, sets the scene for the event which consistently guarantees challenging discourse, creative inspiration and intellectual stimulation as well as fabulous fun and entertainment for all the family. The separate children’s programme adds a further dimension to this Festival which is firmly recognised as one of Scotland’s leading cultural events.
