Charity Garden Open Day: Partickhill Gardens West

2 Banavie Road: a series of steps leads from a maritime themed patio area past a “hot” bed of red and orange plants, through a vegetable garden to a lawn and herbaceous border. The garden contains many fruit trees including step over apples, an old greengage and Victoria plum. The lawned front garden features many rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolia stellata and a crinodendron hookerianum. 69 Partickhill Road: this is a small Victorian urban garden, laid out in the 1860s. It's main feature is a terrace wall of that date. Unusually for this acid area it has been colonised by the lime loving Fairy Foxglove which loves the old lime mortar in the wall. The garden has significant steps. 64 Partickhill Road: the remains of Glasgow’s out of town villas, some early town planning built round the West End’s oldest house, believed to have been built in 1760. Some slopes and an attempt at rationalising the strange geometry results.Three versions of urban cottage gardens with not just the usua
