Late Victorian house, for which Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone, with superb views over the Dee Valley. There are herbaceous borders, heather beds, a water garden and rockery with alpines. The Golden Jubilee garden contains trees, shrubs and plants of a golden hue. There is a fine collection of trees, including recently planted acers and a well-established pinetum with rare specimens. There is also a fruit garden and greenhouses. In June there is a wonderful show of azaleas, rhododendrons and spring heathers. Directions: Off the A97 between Ballater and Strathdon.
