Lenten Masterpieces by Victoria and Scarlatti
The Brighton Singers chamber choir are directed by John Hancorn for a performance of two major works written for Lent. Luis Tomás Victoria's Tenebrae Responsories are among his most inspired settings of sacred text and are sung a capella. The Stabat Mater is a 13th-century Catholic hymn to Mary, which portrays her suffering as Jesus Christ's mother during his crucifixion.
