Pergolesi's Stabat Mater

Stabat Mater is one of the most celebrated sacred works composed by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi in 1736 during the final weeks of his life. Aged only 26years and dying of tuberculosis, Pergolesi beautifully expresses the 13th-century Catholic hymn to Mary, which portrays her suffering as Jesus Christ's mother during his crucifixion. Stabat Mater - the sorrowful mother was standing.
