For those who can bear to crawl out of bed at this hour the reward is a riot of birdsong and sightings of even the shyest animals out in the open – like roe deer, red deer, foxes and badgers. Early mornings can bring the greatest rewards for the wildlife photographer with magical light and our herds of large herbivores – Exmoor ponies, longhorn cattle and fallow deer – wandering through wreathes of mist. At the start of the nightingale season you’ll also hear the liquid song of male nightingales
