May 2017 marks the 350th anniversary of the death of Johann Jacob Froberger, a German composer, organist, and harpsichordist whose keyboard works are widely acknowledged to be among the richest of the early Baroque era and whose music strongly influenced composers that followed. He was the first German harpsichord composer of real significance and his music represents a fusion of French, Italian, and other styles with the more formal German style.
