The Durham Singers: The Cloths of Heaven
The Durham Singers' summer concert spans the Atlantic with words and music from Ireland and America on the themes of love and of home. The programme includes part songs and motets by the great Irish composer Charles Stanford, and Samuel Barber’s settings of Irish poetry “Reincarnations”. Yeats’s famous love poem “He wishes for the cloths of heaven” gives the concert its title, sung to the fresh, bluesy music of Howard Skempton.
