Newburgh, West Lancashire, will celebrate the 40th anniversary of its annual Fair with a week-long series of events starting with a Ruby Ball on Sat June 17 and culminating with the Fair on Sat June 24.
Today’s Fair has its origins in the fourteenth century and was resurrected in 1977 by a group of residents led by the then vicar of Newburgh. It has run continuously since then thanks to the efforts of many volunteers from the village.
“We are planning an extra special Fair in 2017 and expect to welcome around 2000 visitors to the village,” said Fiona Casey, chair of the Newburgh Fair Association.
The Fair procession will take a 1977 theme with floats featuring elements of Star Wars, the Queen’s Silver Jubilee and disco fever.
