Follow in the footsteps of artists, poets, writers, and the aristocracy, who came to marvel at the rugged landscape and 'hunt' out the best spots for a painting. At a time when it was fashionable to take a tour of Europe, Aberystwyth was becoming a genteel seaside resort, and Mid Wales was at the heart of the Picturesque movement.£ During the second half of the 18th century the members of the English upper classes with time on their hands took the 'Grand Tour' of Europe. Some however began to discover that places like Mid Wales had the landscape qualities they were looking for to delight and inspire. For a half day tour this will concentrate on the Ystwyth valley, for a full day tour we will take more time and there will be a variety of options to show you more of the surrounding area.
