Portsmouth Swift Day
Portsmouth remains a place where the Common Swift, a summer visitor to the UK, can still be seen in reasonable numbers. Swifts are an iconic bird species, their arrival in May is eagerly awaited by many and their habit of forming low-level screaming parties of birds barreling between the houses, is the sound of summer.
We are at risk of losing these birds as they are declining fast (over 50% in the past 20 years or so) and the reason for holding this event in Portsmouth is so we can raise awa
