The garden at Knole becomes an atmospheric backdrop to the story of the relationship between Vita and Virginia and the novel Orlando. Towards the end of 1928, the intense relationship betweeen Vita Sackville-West and Virginia Woolf was subsiding and the publishing of Virginia's acclaimed novel Orlando marked the conclusion of a tumultuous year for Vita.
