Talk - The Curridge Hoard, brass coins from 3rd century Roman Britain.
In 1998 a pot of Roman coins was discovered at Curridge, Berkshire. Although it contained everyday Roman brasses and coppers produced from the first to the third centuries AD they bore the names and images of some of the most famous emperors in Roman history. The final coins date to the reign of Septimius Severus (AD 193-211) – destined to spend the end of his life in Britain as part of his campaign to subdue the lands beyond Hadrian’s Wall.
