Walk - The First Battle of Newbury and the local history of Wash Common
Meeting point: Falkland Memorial, 2pm
A walk through 4,500 years of history – from the Falkland Memorial along Essex Street through the royalist and parliamentary position to the spot where Lord Falkland fell and the pivotal ‘round hill’. Returning via the evocative remains of Wash Common’s first Neolithic community and the ‘enclosure acts’ of the 1850s to the modern development of the residential suburbs. Led by local historian Dave Stubbs.
This walk can take up to 2 hours and includes
