The Presence of the Past - Exploring Poetry from Hardy to Eliot
WEA Adult Education Course - Through a selection of the poetry and other writings of Gerard Manley Hopkins, Thomas Hardy, W.B Yeats and T.S. Eliot we explore some of the cultural and literary developments that both shaped and were shaped by these writers during the period. We shall attempt to de-mystify the reputation of 'difficult poetry' that some of these works have gained, and reveal the enduring power that they continue to exert on the imagination of readers.
