The Short Stories and Poems of Thomas Hardy
WEA Adult Education Course - In 1888 Hardy published 'Wessex Tales, followed by three more volumes of short stories. He had been writing poetry from his youth, and in 1898, following the hostile reception of 'Jude the Obscure' he gave up writing novels and published 'Wessex Poems and other verses.' Hardy himself always considered that his true vocation lay in poetry. The course will study examples of both the prose and the poetry.
