Day School: The Grand Tour in the 18th Century
WEA Adult Education Course - This course takes us to meet the people who went on the Grand Tour including Horace Walpole and Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, artists and architects. We see with them the art of Renaissance Florence and the classical remains of Rome. The young dilettanti went to Naples and Pompeii and helped found the British Museum in London. A final fling was had in Venice leaving time to see villas of the Veneto which influenced some 18thc British country houses
