Edith Cole worked a dead-end job in a funeral parlour. Ralph Conti worked wealthy widows for a quick buck. Neither expected to fall in love. But once they did, they just kept on falling. Inspired by the true story of the ‘Lonely Hearts Killers’, a pair of latter-day Macbeths who gripped the imagination of 1950s America, 'Hummingbird' is dark, compelling physical theatre. Award-winning, Lecoq-trained Tooth+Nail blend acrobatics and action with a striking visual style to tell a deviously touching tale of love and murder. Hummingbird uses a lush soundscape of songs, jingles, adverts and other Americana to conjure up the post-war era. This also casts light on the motivation of a couple that believes owning the right car will buy them entry into a society that has rejected them.
