Featured Maker: Stephen Hughes
Stephen’s work explores the potential in unexpected and unfamiliar methods for creating original artwork for fashion print and contemporary luxury scarf products.
Approaches familiar to fine art studio practices are often employed to create a range of abstract fabrics. His distinctive designs are hand drawn and painted and later digitally printed on wools and silks in the UK. The printed fabric laden with expressive marks at varying scales aim to capitalise on the crossovers between high art and commercial fashion when worn. His ‘Imbalance’ collection explores four key design ideas that also reflect a personal interest in developing social and political culture.
Stephen lives and works in South West Wales.
