Standing in Line
Marking the centenary of the Battle of Passendale, ‘Standing in Line’ is performed by Lester Simpson (of Coope, Boyes and Simpson), accompanied by guitarist Nigel Corbett with narration from Mike Bettison. Is it the story of one man’s war, powerfully told with songs, stories and visual footage. Albert Scrimshaw, Lester’s great uncle, was a farm labourer. He joined the ‘Ox and Bucks’ regiment and marched off to war, never to return. His widow lived in Derbyshire until her death in the 1970’s.
