Launceston Priory
Heritage Open Day: Launceston priory was founded in 1127 as a house of Augustinian canons, and dedicated to St. Stephen the Proto-Martyr. Sufficient building had been completed for the church to be consecrated in 1155.
Monastic life came to an abrupt end on 24th February 1539 during the dissolution of the monasteries, Henry VIII's widespread confiscation of monastic property.
By this time the priory was the wealthiest in Cornwall and over 250 lands stretching across Cornwall and into Devon
