St Cuthbert Mayne Church

Heritage Open Day: The Roman Catholic Church of St Cuthbert Mayne was designed in the Byzantine-Romanesque style and built in 1911. St. Cuthbert Mayne was martyred at Launceston for the Faith in November 1577. The mission at Launceston was established in 1886 at Kensey Villa (a previous presbytery) by the Rev. Charles Baskerville Langdon. This was also the year of the beatification of Cuthbert Mayne by Pope Leo XIII. In 1887 a temporary church and stables were built next door to the presbytery
