Aycliffe Village Hall Origins Exhibition
Heritage Open Day: Visual display explaining why Aycliffe Village Hall was originally built as a new village school in 1897. This followed a dispute between the local Vicar and the Headmaster of the Village Church School resulting in the Headmasters dismissal. This incensed the Villagers to such an extent that they built a new school and reinstated the Headmaster.
This dispute was fought as one of the earliest cases by the National Union of Teachers and the dispute reached Parliament.
