St Helen's Church
Heritage Open Day: St Helen's is a picturesque Grade I listed church built mid c11th. It has a cherished monument - 'St Helen's Cross', described by Architectural Historian Sir Nikolaus Pevsner as the best piece of Medieval Sculpture in County Durham dating back to the c12th and prized as 'one of the most important items in Romanesque Sculpture' in the country.
It has previously been on loan for an English Romanesque Art 1066-1200 exhibition in London.
