The Minster Church of St Cuthberga & the Chained Library
Heritage Open Day: The Minster Church is steeped in history with many interesting treasures and artefacts including the Astronomical Clock, Quarter Jack, Man in the Wall and Beaufort Tomb. There has been a place of worship and pilgrimage on this site for over 1300 years and the present building dates from c1120.
The Chained Library, one of the earliest public libraries in the UK, was founded in 1695. It is accessed by a short spiral staircase and contains over 400 volumes.
