Harlowbury Chapel

Heritage Open Day: Harlowbury Chapel is situated in the grounds of Harlowbury Manor. The chapel was built in 1180 with brick buttressed flint walls a fine crown post roof and Norman arched doors and windows. The Chapel is on the site of an earlier building, carbon dated to approximately 750. The nearby house has been dated by dendrochronology to around 1221. The estates at Harlowbury were gifted to the abbots of Bury St Edmunds in 1041 by a saxon thane, Thurstan. The chapel was built by Abbot
