Heritage Open Day: C11th border castle on a spur of land overlooking the River Wye, 3 miles east of the book capital of Hay-on-Wye, this privately owned castle has recently been restored and the Heritage Open Days present a unique opportunity to see one of the smaller castles which defended the border with Wales. Visitors can see the outer bailey and gatehouse and by climbing a steep path up the motte they can enter through a second gatehouse to the inner bailey protected by five round towers. H
