St Mary the Virgin's Parish Church & Bell Tower

Heritage Open Day: St Mary's is Dover's civic church. It is a Saxon/Norman foundation largely rebuilt in 1843 with original arches and columns reinstated. The magnificent tower survived this restoration. Originally built by secular canons of St. Martin Le Grand, it was rebuilt by the Normans. At the Dissolution it was saved from demolition when Henry VIII granted it for use as a parish and civic church. On Saturday visitors can visit the Bell Tower and see how a team of bell ringers
