St George's Church, Jesmond
Heritage Open Day: St George's was built in 1888-9 by Charles Mitchell, a local shipbuilder, who engaged his shipyard architect to design the building. It is a truely outstanding example of Victorian art and architecture. The interior is one of restrained magnificence. The glass, mosaics, carving and metalwork include rare Art Nouveau design which fit seamlessly into the traditional Neo Early English style. Refreshments will be available on Friday 1000-1200.
