Heritage Open Day: At the heart of the historic village of Washington this picturesque stone manor house, originally built in the 13th century with tranquil Jacobean gardens, reflect gentry life following the turbulence of the English Civil War.
The building incorporates parts of the original medieval home of George Washington's direct ancestors and it's from here that the family took the name 'Washington' which was later carried across the Atlantic to America.
