Calne Open Doors Day: Calne Almshouses

Heritage Open Day: A rare opportunity to step inside Calne's intriguing 17th century Almshouses as part of Calne Heritage Week. The Almshouses were built in 1682 for the relief of eight poor widows in the Calne parish. An inscription above the door reads ‘To the glory of God and the good of the poore was this house erected by John Tounson Dr D. son of Robert late Bishop of Salisbury 1682.’ Visitors will also be able to view the Almshouses' beautifully tended gardens whilst enjoyin
