St Peter's Church
Heritage Open Day: St. Peter's Church was dedicated in 1866 to serve the Bargees and their families working on the adjacent Kennet and Avon Canal. The families were employed by the Devizes Brick and Tile Company, and all housed along Bath Road along with the men of the Royal Wiltshire Militia. The barracks stood on the present High Lawns site.
St. Peter's School, built beside the church for the children of the parish, was founded a year later.
