Red House - 'Apple Tree to Vine Leaf: the Morris & Co. Embroidery Department' Lecture
May Morris bequeathed to the Victoria and Albert Museum a handwritten ledger recording over 450 embroidery orders completed between 1892 and 1896. Uncover its secrets with this lecture, a part of the Embroidery Resurgent programme at Red House. See how the ledger illuminates the operation of the embroidery business, looking at May Morris's role as a designer and manager, working conditions for her employees and the shopping habits of some of her regular embroidery customers.
