Sing as We Go screening
The British Silent Film Festival on Tour presents four films made on the cusp between silent and sound cinema which show how cinema in the late 1920s adapted to this revolutionary new technology. Gracie Fields is perfect in this upbeat depression-era film, especially written for her by novelist J.B.Preistley. Fields plays a feisty working-class heroine who loses her job in a Lancashire cotton mill, and heads to Blackpool in search of adventure, singing as she goes! Introduction by Dr. Laraine Po
