Durufle Requiem – Rutter Requiem, Cheltenham Choral Society, Conductor Ian Higginson
Cheltenham Choral Society will be performing two popular requiems for their autumn concert.
Maurice Durufle (1902-1986) composed his requiem in 1947 in memory of his father. It is his greatest and most performed work. He was influenced in the style of the music by other French composers particularly Faure. It is based on the Gregorian chant but uses modern harmonies and Durufle imbues every note with feeling. He broke away from the fear and damnation of dramatic operatic requiems instead focus
